Jamie Papa

(she/her/hers)

Jamie Papa is a Filipino artist based in upstate New York— and is an artist of different forms. After years of intermissions, ballet, cotillion dance, Filipino class skits, workshops, and karaoke nights, she made her professional debut as a Katipunera in Areté Ateneo’s revival of 2Bayani: Isang (A) Rock Opera directed by the late Ricardo Abad. She proceeded to make her international debut as Kim in Miss Saigon (cover/Guam), and then performed as an ensemble/swing in Zsazsa Zaturnnah the Musical’Yun Lang! with the Ateneo Blue Repertory.

After she graduated Magna Cum Laude standing in BA English Studies: Literature from the University of the Philippines Diliman, Jamie instantly received graceful opportunity to study MA Theatre in the State University of New York at Binghamton with the Graduate Student of the Arts Scholarship. She has consistently been having shows since her first semester, is a teaching assistant, and recently has made her NYC cabaret debut as well. Both in the Philippines and America, she has learned much from a wide array of wonderful artists and writers such as Anton Juan, Missy Maramara, Jojo Urquico, Anne Brady, Chester Cruz, Olive Nieto, Conchitina Cruz, and Elizabeth Mozer.

On the side, she writes a lot— mostly poems and creative nonfiction— and has been working on English-to-Filipino translation. She is also a literary scholar and recently received endorsement for her undergraduate thesis to be published after she presented it in the International Conference Workshop on Language and Literature..

Her top three shows at the moment are Hadestown, Next To Normal, and The Last Five Years. She also has a big collection of pressed flowers and leaves, which she has been curating since 2017. She loves to play The Sims and has unfortunately (and unintentionally) abandoned her Animal Crossings: New Horizons island since 2023 and fears Tom Nook has already closed her house down in protest.
